DAZN will tomorrow launch a promotion in the French market that will see the price of an annual Ligue 1 subscription cut by €10 per month.
In July, the streamer acquired the broadcast rights to eight Ligue 1 games per matchday at a cost of €400 million a year, but has been on the receiving end of fan criticism as it tries to recoup its investment.
According to a survey released by the Odoxa institute, 65% of French football fans believe that the prices of the Ligue 1 broadcaster, DAZN, “justify” piracy to follow the top-flight football.
To head off the criticism Brice Daumin, CEO of DAZN France, announced a new offer. “We are going to launch a promotion around our offers, valid from September 10 to September 22. Concerning the monthly offer (is 39.99 euros, the first two months will be €19.99. So, 50% off on the first two months. And we are going to do an exceptional promotion on the annual offer which is today €29.99 (per month), which will be €19.99 over 12 months,” he told the news agency AFP.
“The first three days were crucial for us. We had zero bugs. We are happy with this start. The feedback from the clubs is positive. A first step has been taken. Now, it is important to build over time, learn lessons and develop the product,” said, adding that piracy was theft and was in danger of undermining the entire ecosystem.
