The popularity of video on demand (VOD) services in the Czech Republic continues to grow across all market segments.
According to the latest atmedia index research, 47% of Czechs aged 15-69 actively used at least one streaming service in the first half of the year. Compared to the second half of last year, this is five percentage points more. “The number of users of streaming services such as Netflix, Voyo or Max increased quite significantly in the first six months of this year by 300 thousand to 3.1 million users,” calculates Pavel Müller, Senior Head of Research & Marketing, atmedia.
The Top 5 services in the Czech market, Netflix, Voyo, Disney+, Max and Prima+, benefitted the most with some increasing their user base by 200,000.
However, some services have lost viewers.
The largest number of users on the Czech market has long been Netflix, which is watched by two-thirds of all users of streaming services. The remaining four largest paid VOD services are losing audience, ranging from 17% to 36% of all users of streaming services.
Typically, Czech household have subscriptions to at least two streaming services. Almost half of users of streaming services watch content on these platforms daily or almost daily, more than a third do so at least several times a week.
“Czech users of paid VOD services spend an average of 1 hour and 6 minutes a day watching them, which is approximately 8 hours in one week,” explains Müller.
The survey took place in two waves for the first and second quarters of 2024 (April 5-22, 2024, July 3-23, 2024).
