Deutsche Telekom has gained 114,000 customers for its MagentaTV platform in Germany in Q2 2024 – considerably more than in Q2 2023 in which just 36,000 customers were added.
The German telco attributes the growth to the UEFA European Football Championship where MagentaTV was the only platform to broadcast all 51 games live and to the change in German regulation unbundling cable TV subscriptions from tenant’s ancillary costs. In total, Telekom had 4,5 million TV customers in Germany on 30 June 2024.
Furthermore, Telekom increased its number of broadband customers with pure fibre connections in Q2 2024 by 113,000 to over 1.2 million.
“All our operations are performing well,” said Tim Höttges, CEO of Deutsche Telekom. “Quarter by quarter, we are seeing our strategy pay off.”
