Disney is to introduce Continuous Playlists to its customers in the United States as it looks to cushion a new set of price increases across the Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ combination.
From September 4, Disney+ will include ABC News Live and a playlist focused on preschool content that will be available to all subscribers. An additional four Playlists will be introduced later in the autumn and will initially be available only to premium subscribers.
The Playlists themselves, which in part feel like FAST channels without the commericals, will comprise of Seasonal Content – a collection of seasonal-themed content from across the Disney+ catalogue; Epic Stories — a compilation of action-packed stories from marquee brands and franchises, including Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars; Throwbacks – a destination for nostalgic pop culture content and Real Life – a lineup of traditional documentaries, biopics, and true stories.
The content will be refreshed monthly.
“Playlists are the latest example of how we’re providing the best value and experience for our subscribers every time they open Disney+,” Alisa Bowen, President, Disney+, said. “Whether it’s news, kids’ content, popular genres, hit TV shows or blockbuster films, there will be something for everyone in a lean-back viewing experience based on seasonality and interest.”
The ad-supported version of Disney+ is rising by $2 monthly, to $9.99; Disney+ Premium is also increasing $2 to $15.99. Hulu with ads will now cost $9.99 per month, another $2 rise, and the ad-free Hulu is going up a dollar, to $18.99 per month.
