Sales of TV sets in Germany rose by almost 17% in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the same period last year, report industry associations ZVEI and Deutsche TV-Plattform in cooperation with market research institute GfK.
According to the companies, the increase is primarily due to a ‘Euro effect’ from the purchase of new TV sets in the run-up to and during the 2024 European Football Championship. After a weaker first quarter, this resulted in a slight overall increase to 2.01 million TV sets sold in the first half of 2024 (first half of 2023: 1.99 million).
Consumers are increasingly opting for TV sets with larger screen sizes in the area of 51 to 65 inches or more while the TV sets sold with up to 50 inches dropped compared to the first half of 2023.
The share of Ultra HD TV sets, which were sold, increased again slightly to 79% in the second quarter of the current year. In total, around 32.6 million Ultra HD TV sets have been sold in Germany since the market launch.
