Eurosport commentator Bob Ballard has been dropped by broadcaster after making sexist comments about Australian female swimmers.
After their gold medal in the 4-by-100 metres freestyle relay, Ballard – who was working for Eurosport – said “you know what women are like… hanging around, doing their make-up”.
His fellow commentator, Lizzie Simmonds, immediately called his remark “outrageous”.
“During a segment of Eurosport’s coverage last night, commentator Bob Ballard made an inappropriate comment,” the Warner Bros Discovery broadcaster said in a statement “To that end, he has been removed from our commentary roster with immediate effect.”
Ballard has been a broadcaster for 40 years covering sports including swimming, diving, ice hockey, basketball, and wheelchair tennis. He has also been a presenter for BBC Radio Kent and lectures in journalism.
