Sky Deutschland to add Joyn to Sky Q and Sky Stream

July 23, 2024 15.27 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

The ProSiebenSat.1 streaming service Joyn will be available as an app on the Sky platforms Sky Q and Sky Stream in Germany from August 2024.

Pay-TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland and media company ProSiebenSat.1 have agreed a long-term distribution agreement for Germany and Austria. Sky Stream, which launches in Germany on 31 July 2024, will also offer all ProSiebensat.1 free TV channels in HD resolution from the start.

In Austria, the Joyn app will initially be launched on Sky Q, while Sky Stream will be available to Austrian customers in 2025.

For Sky Deutschland, the agreement with ProSiebenSat.1 closes an important gap, as previously only RTL+ was available on Sky Q. The pay-TV operator can now combine the streaming services of both major German commercial broadcaster groups on its platforms.

“Our expanded partnership with Sky brings all ProSiebenSat.1 channels with additional features as well as the Joyn app to the Sky platforms in Germany and Austria. We are thus offering Sky subscribers new options for our linear channels: In addition to reception in HD, they can use extended add-on functions such as instant restart,” said Nicole Agudo Berbel, Chief Distribution Officer of ProSiebenSat.1. “Through cooperations like this, we are also creating additional reach and new user potential for Joyn.”

Evelyn Rothblum, Chief Transformation Officer at Sky Deutschland, added: “Through the extended partnership with ProSiebenSat.1, we are expanding the extensive content offering for our customers on all Sky platforms. Directly at the launch of Sky Stream, the Joyn app will enrich the high-quality and broad portfolio of content with numerous highlights. With Sky Stream, entertainment fans can find all TV content conveniently on one interface, regardless of which provider it comes from. We rely on strong partnerships like this to offer viewers real added value.”
