Sky News and Sky Sports News were off air on Friday after the broadcasters were caught up in an international outage around Microsoft cloud services.
The US tech giant confirmed late Thursday that customers in the Central US region could experience issues with its Azure product. Broadcasting is one of a number of sectors that have been disrupted, including telecommunications, transport and health services.
It is believed to have been traced to an upgrade to the Cloudstrike cybersecurity platform.
Sky News went off air shortly before 06.00 BST, though it was able to continue newsgathering, and update its websites. Broadcasts resumed after 09:00 with presenter Anna Jones based in an unfamiliar studio.
The only BBC channel to be affected is CBBC, which characteristically displayed a message reading The channel has a message which reads: “Sorry! Something’s gone wrong.
“While we fix it, please go to BBC iPlayer.”
