Eurosport 4k to broadcast Olympics in UHD via HD+ on Astra

July 18, 2024 09.44 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

Sports fans in Germany will be able to watch the Olympic Games 2024 in UHD/HDR resolution.

Eurosport 4k will be available from 26 July to 11 August via Astra (19.2° East) on German DTH satellite platform HD+ on UHD1. The event channel will broadcast over 200 hours of the competitions live from Paris in native UHD, including the opening and closing ceremonies.

“We are delighted that, true to the motto of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games ‘Games Wide Open’, we can not only make the games accessible to as many people as possible, but also offer viewers the full brilliance of the competitions in perfect picture quality – on our Eurosport 4k channel together with our strong partner HD+,” said Matthias Heinze, Head of Distribution & Partnerships, Managing Director GSA at Warner Bros. Discovery.

Andreas Müller-Vondey, Managing Director of HD Plus, added: “When the biggest sports festival in the world takes place, everyone wants to be there. We are all the more delighted that viewers can watch the most spectacular competitions on their TV sets with Eurosport 4k and share the excitement. If not on site, then in UHD with HDR.”

Eurosport 4k, available on UHD1 via HD+, will broadcast the major live highlights on every day of the competition. The classic Olympic sports of athletics and swimming will form the core of the coverage, alongside gymnastics, volleyball, cycling, canoeing, judo and triathlon.

The programmes start on 26 July at 19:30 CEST with the opening ceremony and end with the closing ceremony on 11 August at 21:00 CEST. Astra satellite households require a subscription with an active HD+ channel package to receive UHD1. HD+ reaches the screens via the HD+ TV app, which is integrated in many smart TVs, an HD+ UHD set-top box or the HD+ module.
