Italian public broadcaster RAI is to move its terrestrial multiplex to DVB-T2 and HEVC.
Mux B, operated under a five-year contract between RAI and the Ministry of Enterprise, will transmit in the format from August 28, 2024.
Rai Storia, Rai Scuola and Rai Radio 2 Visual will be broadcast exclusively in this new standard, while Rai 1 HD, Rai 2 HD and Rai 3 HD nazionale will be simulcast.
A test channel, Rai Sport HD Test HEVC, has been set-up to help viewers establish the compatibility of their devices with the new format.
The trade body Aeranti-Corallo says the transition to the new technology can no longer be postponed, in order to allow local broadcasting to have adequate transmission capacity for the broadcasting of its channels in high definition.
