Eurosport achieves record audience for Roland Garros

June 13, 2024 13.00 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Eurosport has recorded its biggest tournament audience in its 35 year history.

Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) says the launch of new streaming service Max has helped drive viewership alongside the established Discovery+.

Unique streaming viewers across all WBD platforms grew by 29% year-on-year with streaming minutes consumed rising by 47%.

WBD also says “million of visitors” came to Eurosport’s local language websites where video consumption across the tournament also broke new records.

Viewership across Europe grew by nearly half (48%) with record numbers reported in Poland, Italy, Germany and the UK.

Viewership across Europe peaked with an eight-figure audience during the men’s final, more than two thirds (69%) larger than last year as Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz triumphed over Germany’s Alexander Zverev in an epic five set thriller after both players had reached their first Roland-Garros finals.

The women’s final, pitting Poland’s four-time title winning Iga Swiatek against Italy’s Jasmine Paolini, was also the highest ever audience secured on Eurosport during a women’s final, rising by more than a fifth (21%) since Swiatek’s dominant display in 2023.

Eurosport will produce coverage of every match from Wimbledon for viewers in 11 markets as part of a recently announced rights agreement.
