Dutch cable operator Ziggo has started the phasing out of DVB-C channels on its network.
“Ziggo will phase over a number of TV packages from DVB-C to IP. The TV packages in question are: Hindi, Turkish, Arabic and Gay Lifestyle. Customers affected will be personally informed about this from 30 May,” the operator said in a statement.
Subscribers to these package with the old Mediabox will be supplied with the Next Mini all-IP set-top box.
Ziggo is already offering a number of channels in IP via special apps, there is a French and an Italian language IP package available.
However, Ziggo claims to have no concrete plans at this time to switch off DVB-C completely. It also says it has no plans yet to make more channels IP-only after the switch-off of the Hindi, Turkish, Arabic and Gay Lifestyle packages.
