On 1 June 2024, the DDR TV-Archiv channel will launch on the German TIVEE platform, which brings FAST Channels to cable networks via an HbbTV app.
The new channel, which is automatically available to all viewers free of charge in the “Films & Series” category, shows well-known films and series from the former TV channels of the German Democratic Republic (GDR).
The programme assets of GDR state broadcaster Deutscher Fernsehfunk (DFF), which will be made available to the public via the new channel, originate from the German Broadcasting Archive in Babelsberg. The collection covers the period from the first broadcast on 21 December 1952 to the end of broadcasting on 31 December 1991.
The DDR TV archive channel is offered by OneGate Media, a subsidiary of Studio Hamburg (NDR), in cooperation with FUNKE Digital, which handles technical operations and markets the advertising space.
The FAST Channel platform TIVEE is offered by German cable association DNMG whose partners can distribute the service on their networks. When a viewer selects the channel, an HbbTV app provides access to a selection of FAST Channels delivered via the internet. TIVEE thus combines traditional cable television with streaming services.
