Almost 32 million UHD TVs have been sold in Germany since their launch in 2013.
According to the latest CE Industry Compass from ZVEI and the German TV Platform in cooperation with GfK, the market share for very large televisions and LCD sets has also increased slightly.
Four out of every five televisions sold in stores are UHD TVs (78%). The proportion of UHD televisions that can display all common HDR processes increased by four percentage points to 26% in Q1 2024 (Q1 2023: 22%). The trend towards the direct integration of surround sound in televisions is also continuing. At 42%, the share at the end of Q1 2024 was two points above the previous year’s level. Televisions with very large screen sizes were also slightly more in demand. While the share of TV sets up to 50 inches fell by 3% compared to Q1 2023, the shares of the 51 to 65 inch (approx. 130 to 165 cm) and larger segments increased slightly. 97% of televisions sold in Q1 2024 are equipped with smart functions.
Overall, the market covered by the CE Industry Compass declined in the first quarter of 2024. The reluctance of consumers is reflected in the sales trend. In total, turnover amounted to EUR 1.4 billion in 2023, around 13% less than in 2022.
