Exclusive: QVC Deutschland closes QVC2 UHD

March 18, 2024 15.59 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

German teleshopping broadcaster QVC Deutschland has ceased offering its QVC2 channel in Ultra HD resolution (UHD).

“We will, at least for now, reserve this USP for our main channel in order to further strengthen it,” a QVC spokesperson told Broadband TV News.

“Our distribution strategy is geared towards making our three QVC channels available to our viewers in the long term and on all platforms, selecting the resolutions in such a way that they meet both the different programme strategies and the viewing habits of our viewers,” the spokesperson said.

“With this in mind, our main channel QVC, for which we produce 17 hours of live content every day, will continue to be available in SD, HD and UHD. QVC2 will be available to our viewers in SD and HD and QVC Style in HD.”

QVC2 UHD launched on 1 October 2019, broadcasting on the Astra satellite system (19.2° East). With the closure, only the main QVC channel remains available in UHD resolution on Astra. QVC UHD is also distributed by cable operators, for example wilhelm.tel and willy.tel.
