Universal Music Group’s Mercury Studios is to launch a new FAST channel on Samsung TV Plus in the UK.
GIGS will feature live performances and documentaries from across UMG’s audio-visual catalogue from artists including The Cure, Def Leppard, The Police, and The Rolling Stones, among others – as well as special featured episodes from Live From Abbey Road.
“Music plays an important role in people’s lives, which is why we are excited to bring our unrivalled audio-visual catalogue to the world of FAST with our new channel, GIGS, exclusively on Samsung TV Plus,” said Mercury Studios CEO Alice Webb.
Mercury has produced Billie Eilish’s livestream event, Overheated, at The O2 London and the upcoming Lang Lang Plays Disney for Disney+. It is also behind My Life as a Rolling Stone, a four-part docuseries of portraits of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts for the BBC and MGM+; Shania Twain: Not Just a Girl, a career documentary about the superstar currently available on Netflix and Mixtape, the critically acclaimed feature documentary from Omar Acosta focused on the DJs and artists who shaped the sound and culture of Hip-Hop through mixtapes for Paramount+.
“We are thrilled to bring GIGS to Samsung users across the UK and bring our partnership with Mercury Studios to life by celebrating their FAST channel, exclusively on Samsung TV Plus, with an intimate gig by the R&B quartet NoGuidnce at Samsung’s experience store Samsung KX in London,” added Jenn Batty, European Head of Content Acquisitions Samsung TV Plus.
Samsung TV Plus is pre-installed on all Samsung Smart TVs from 2016, and available for download from the Google Play and Galaxy Store on Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets in select territories. The free, ad-supported video service is available in the UK and 15 other European territories.
