Deutsche Telekom is now also offering ProSiebenSat.1’s streaming service Joyn on its domestic TV platform MagentaTV, marking a significant strategic move.
For new customers, the Joyn app is pre-installed on the redesigned MagentaTV user interface while existing customers can find the app in the app suggestions. Viewers can use Joyn’s free content, which is also integrated into the MagentaTV search function.
“With the launch of the Joyn app at Deutsche Telekom, MagentaTV customers can now watch our free content more easily than ever before, just in time for the start of Germany’s Next Topmodel. Through this partnership, we are opening up additional reach for Joyn’s free streaming offer – with corresponding advertising sales potential. We are thus creating an even more attractive offer for MagentaTV customers,” said Katharina Frömsdorf, CEO of Joyn.
Arnim Butzen, Head of TV at Deutsche Telekom, explained: “The cooperation with Joyn underlines our strategic approach. As a smart aggregator, we want to offer our MagentaTV customers the best TV experience together with strong partners. The free Joyn app gives our customers access to first-class content from numerous genres, including top titles in both fictional and non-fictional areas.”
The integration of Joyn is of great strategic importance for Telekom, as it combines the streaming services of Germany’s two leading commercial broadcasters ProSiebenSat.1 and RTL on its TV platform for the first time, reinforcing its ambition to become the central local hub in the German streaming market.
