ENENSYS Technologies has detailed its involvement in the launch of ultra high definition (UHD) broadcasts of France 2 and France 3.
France Télévisions is launching the two services on DTT ahead of the Paris Olympics this summer. France 2 launched its service on January 23, 2024 with France 3 launching as a pop-up channel for two months from July 10.
The project is based on DVB-SIS (Single Illumination System) technology, to which ENENSYS has made a major contribution and implemented with its OneBeam solution. The technology enables France Télévisions to combine satellite links to serve both terrestrial DTT broadcast transmitters and direct-to-home (DTH) satellite reception homes.
Régis LE Roux, founder and CEO of ENENSYS Technologies, declared: “We’re delighted to be taking part in the modernization of DTT in France. By distributing high-quality content with UHD, we’re helping to meet consumers’ growing expectations in terms of visual quality. Thanks to our OneBeam solution, already proven internationally for 10 years, we are enabling media groups like France Télévisions to deploy their second-generation infrastructure faster and at lower cost.”
The system means that as Ultra HD is further deployed a single satellite distribution and a single shared headend could be used to cover the entire French population.
