Swisscom chooses the Bitmovin Player to accelerate the reach of blue TV

February 5, 2024 00.01 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Swisscom is to deploy the Bitmovin Player to ensure its blue TV streaming service can the broadest range of devices.

Swisscom’s blue TV is available through the operator’s Swisscom box, through apps, and as a premium service on other networks as blue+. Deploying the Bitmovin Player is part of Swisscom’s strategy of making its blue TV offering as accessible on as many devices and platforms as possible. Additionally, the Bitmovin Player will ensure Swisscom can launch blue TV on new devices and platforms as soon as they are available.

“Every decision we make for blue TV revolves around delivering an unparalleled experience for our viewers, from its compelling programming slate to the robustness of our video streaming infrastructure,” said Simon Maurer, Head of TV and Smart Products Client Development at Swisscom. “The Bitmovin Player mirrors our commitment to technical excellence and it quickly became our first choice for a video player. With the Bitmovin Player, we will unlock the power to reach the widest audience possible and bring blue TV to audiences across Switzerland and beyond.”

The Bitmovin Player supports device compatibility across Web, Android, iOS, Roku, and major smart TVs, so users can have the same immersive viewing experience irrespective of the device they are using at any given time. Based on an API approach, Bitmovin’s Player offers several features that can be selected and adjusted to workflow needs.

“We’re incredibly excited and proud to be joining Swisscom on its quest to bring blue TV to an even wider audience,” said Stefan Lederer, CEO and co-founder of Bitmovin. “The Bitmovin Player will help Swisscom power streams that are unrivaled in quality and deliver them to the most devices available on the market today at speed and scale.”
