Free has released details of the ninth version of Freebox, the Freebox Ultra.
The French telco described the product as “Ultra powerful, ultra responsible, ultra simple and ultra generous”. It also integrates Wi-Fi 7 for the first time.
The unt is capable of symmetrical speeds of up to 8 Gbps in both upstream and downstream and reaches up to 6 Gbps on several devices simultaneously. It is five times faster that the Wi-Fi 6 of its predecessor.
A brand new Wi-Fi 7 Repeater, developed in-house enables the coverage to be extended throughout the home.
Free says the Freebox Ultra consumes as little power as the Freebox Pop, the smallest box on the market, thanks to a careful selection by its R&D teams. A new total standby mode reduces coverage to “almost zero” when placed in standby overnight.
The new Eco Wi-Fi mode also allows the Freebox Ultra to adapt the performance of its Wi-Fi 7 on its own according to the connected devices in order to consume exactly the energy necessary for its operation
The Freebox Ultra offer also includes a small 4G pebble, which allows eligible subscribers to be connected even before the arrival of fibre to their homes at an included 200 Gbps.
Canal Plus content is included in the offer and Netflix, Prime Video, and for the first time Disney+ are also available.
