85% of fixed broadband lines in Spain are fibre

At the end of September 2023, the number of active fibre to the home (FTTH) connections in Spain reached 15.4 million, according to data from regulator CNMC.

17 million fixed broadband lines had a contracted speed of 100 Mbps or higher.

Mobile broadband traffic registered 2.1 million Terabytes, 26.3% more than in the same period of the previous year.

Revenue from retail services at €5,668 million euros, grew by 2.2% in the third quarter of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. Movistar, Orange and Vodafone took over the 71% of the retail income from the sector, 2.3 percentage points less than in the same period of 2022.

Movistar reduced its income compared to the third quarter of 2022, while those of Vodafone, Orange and Grupo MASMOVIL were higher than a year ago.

Installed new generation network connections (NGA) were 87.5 million, 10.5% more than a year ago. The only connections that grew were fibre to the home with 79.3 million connections, 8.5 million more than the previous year.

85% of active broadband lines were fibre at the end of September. Of the 18.1 million fixed broadband connections, those that had a contracted speed of 100 Mbps or higher reached 17 million.

70.2% of fixed broadband lines belonged to Movistar, Vodafone and Orange, 4.9 percentage points less than a year ago.

On mobile telephony, the market share for these three operators was 69.4%, 1.5 percentage points less than a year ago.
