NHK WORLD-JAPAN, the English-language international service of Japan’s public media organisation NHK, is expanding its distribution in Germany with the launch on waipu.tv.
The streaming TV provider is offering the 24-hour service on its platform from January 15, 2024. NHK WORLD-JAPAN is available for all waipu.tv subscribers. The channel marks the first Japanese service on the platform, further expanding the variety of channels provided by waipu.tv.
“Today marks a very important day for us. With waipu.tv we found a partner that will help us to make NHK WORLD-JAPAN even more accessible across Germany. We are excited about the launch and look forward to a successful partnership,” said Jun Takao, CEO of Japan International Broadcasting (JIB). The NHK subsidiary is responsible for the global distribution of NHK WORLD-JAPAN.
“Our aim is to offer relevant channels and content for every customer. The inclusion of NHK is an exciting addition to this variety and gives our customers an insight into Japanese culture and its views on the world,” added Susanne Thierer, Head of Content at waipu.tv.
NHK WORLD-JAPAN offers a 24/7 service featuring hourly live international news from Tokyo and news bureaus around the globe as well as programmes on Japanese society, politics, science, culture, history, food and lifestyle.
