SuperSport has announced it will show the Africa Cup of Nations in 46 African markets just days after saying it had been unable to reach agreement with rightsholder New World TV (NWTV).
Parent Multichoice said it had bow reached a “commercially viable agreement” with the Togo-based broker that has secured he exclusive rights to all competitions organised by regional governing body CAF, including AFCON, through to 2025.
Although agreements had been put in place with Sky (UK), Sport Italia, Ziggo in the Netherlands, and the LaLiga+ in Spain, there was a growing risk of a blackout in parts of Africa the continent where the competion was taking place.
Multichoice will now take the tournament for its linear channels, alongside its DStv and Gotv services.
StarTimes will also provide coverage in sub-Saharan Africa, while public broadcaster SABC will show the competition in South Africa.
24 teams will play in the tournament, which is being held from January 13 to February 11 in the Ivory Coast was initially postponed for a year due to extreme weather conditions in the home nation.
