The number of Netflix subscribers that have chosen the streamer’s advertising supporter tier has already reached 23 million.
This represents an increase of about 8 million subscribers since the last confirmation in November.
Speaking at the Variety Entertainment Summit in Las Vegas, Netflix President of Advertising Amy Reinhard revealed 75% of Basic with Ads subscribers watch Netflix for more than two hours per day.
“Scaling our business is absolutely our biggest priority right now, but we want to make sure we’re doing that in a meaningful way for the members,” Reinhard said.
The tier was introduced as part of the Netflix crackdown on password sharing and was accompanied by price increases in its premium tiers.
Around one third of new subscribers are opting for Basic with Ads, the company said.
Netflix launched Basic with Ads plan in the United States, Canada, Australia, Brazil, France, Italy, Germany, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Spain and the UK in 2022, where it costs £4.99 a month.
