Multichoice is again offering its DStv service in Malawi after the intervention of the High Court in Lilongwe.
Multichoice Africa Holdings (MAH) has been in dispute with the Communications Regulatory Authority (Macra) over changes to its pricing structure.
In a statement issued Wednesday, MAH said the decision to resume services had been taken following the December 1 High Court ruling in the dispute between Macra and its local agent Multichoice Malawi.
“We are happy to be resuming services in Malawi and want to assure our customers that they can resume accessing our services as before, said Keabetawe Modimoeng, Group Executive for Corporate Affairs and Stakeholder Management.
Multichoice Malawi is also extending an offer to Malawian customers, who have held an active subscription since 1 April 2023, complimentary access to its premium package for the nine days to 14 December 2023.
In August, MultiChoice increased the subscription fees for its DStv packages, prompting MACRA to secure an injunction against the tariff hike. In response, Multichoice Malawi (MCM) obtained a “stay order” to comply with the injunction.
An injunction brought by Macra, and upheld by the High Court, lead to Multichoice suspending its services.
