The Culture and Media and Sport Committee has announced plans to hold a hold pre-appointment hearing with Samir Shah, the government’s preferred candidate for the vacant BBC chair position.
It follows an announcement from Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer that Dr Shah was the preferred candiate.
Once the hearing has completed, the Committee will publish a report on the suitability of the candidate for the Government to consider as part of the appointment process.
In April, former Goldman Sachs banker Richard Sharp announced he would step down as chairman of the BBC after he was found to have breached the code for public appointments.
Dr Shah is currently chief executive and creative director of Juniper, the independent television and radio production company, which specialises in current affairs, history, science, arts and pop culture.
