The Dutch incumbent KPN has agreed to buy Kabeltex, a builder of fibre-optic networks and ISP on Texel and in the north of Holland, for an undisclosed fee.
Kabeltex offers full coverage on Texel and is currently completing the rollout of fibre-optic in Den Helder, Hollands Kroon and Schagen. All told, it covers around 18,000 households.
According to KPN, the acquisition is in line with its aim to provide approximately 80% of the Netherlands with fibre-optic services together with Glaspoort by the end of 2026. Fibre optic is essential for providing high-speed internet, which is of great importance for consumers, entrepreneurs and society.Following completion of the acquisition, KPN will add Kabeltex’s fibre optic networks to its existing offering of wholesale services for fibre optic networks. This allows a wide range of market parties to be active on these networks, giving end users a wide choice of various providers.
