There remains a high probability that the Ukrainian operator Kyivstar will be sanctioned and have its assets confiscated.
Quoting Rostislav Shurma, the deputy head of the Office of the President, Ekonomichna Pravda adds that “the relevant services are currently studying the existence of a legal situation”. Asked whether it will be a shre in the company or complete confiscation, he said that this is currently being studied by lawyers and would not be his decision, rather that of “a large number of institutions”.
As previously reported by Broadband TV News, there was confusion last month as to whether 100% of Kyivstar’s assets had been seized by the Ukrainian authorities. This was disputed by the company, whose owner Veon, now no longer Russian-owned, denied that the sanctioned Russian oligarch Mikhail Fridman retained any influence in the company.
At the beginning of this month, Veon filed two motions with the relevant Kyiv district court challenging the freezing of the corporate rights in Kyivstar.
