TF1 CEO Rodolphe Belmer has given details of the French commercial network’s new streaming platform.
TF1+ will go live on January 8, 2024, when it will replace the existing MyTF1 on connected TVs and set-top boxes from Orange, SFR and Bouygues Télécom, where it will take pride of place on the home page. However, in an interview with La Figaro, there was no mention by Belmer of Iliad’s Free where there is so far no partnership. Instead, Free, and others without an agreement, will instead continue with MyTF1. It’s also planned for there to be a my TF1 button on selected remote controls.
The streaming service will be free-to-air and supported by advertising. Its arrival also comes just months after the demise of Salto, the French streaming platform launched jointly by TF1, M6 and France Télévisions.
The broadcaster is placing a renewed emphasis on content with the transfer of French soap Plus belle la vie from public service broadcaster France 3.
Viewers will find more than 15,000 hours of content including Koh Lanta, The Voice and More beautiful life, the popular French show that will return to coincide with the TF1+ launch.
Short videos will summarise the day’s news and there will also be bite-sized versions of popular programmes.
Significantly, a dual profile algorithm will make it possible to select shows for more than one viewer, with the same technology also selecting which commercials are seen.
