The number of smart TVs has overtaken traditional TVs in Italian of homes for the first time.
According to the sixth annual report by Auditel and Censis, the total stand at 21 million and 20.5 million respectively. However, if traditional TVs with connected devices are added to smart TVs, the resulting connected TV total rises to 22.8 million.
As of this year, 64% of homes can connect their sets to the internet, up from 34.9% in 2017.
Meanwhile, in 2023 26.3 million Italians, or 45.8% of the total, watched streaming audio and video content on platforms and websites, including the free platforms of national broadcasters. The total stood at 27% in 2017 and increased significantly during the pandemic.
