The next stage of Poland’s transition to the DVB-T2/HEVC standard will take place in January 2024, with the public broadcaster TVP taking centre stage.
According to the country’s National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT), from next January at the latest the multiplex MUX-3 will switch to DVB-T2/HEVC.
Furthermore, in accordance with TVP’s declaration, from January 13, 2024 the following channels will be available on the second public television multiplex (MUX-6), where services are broadcast in the new DVB-T2/HEVC standard from its launch in 2022: TVP Kobieta, TVP Rozrywka, TVP Document, TVP Nauka, TVP Polonia, Alfa TVP, Belsat TV and TVP World.
In addition, again in Accordance with TVP’s declaration, from December 19, 2023, the following channels will be available on the MUX-3 multiplex: TVP1, TVP2, TVP3, TVP Info, TVP Sport, TVP Historia, TVP ABC and TVP Kultura (currently six channels are broadcast on this multiplex).
KRRIt notes that the switch to DVB-T2/HEVC was made on all multiplexes in the country, except MUX-3, up until June 30, 2022.
Maintaining the current reception of MUX-3 terrestrial television channels in the DVB-T standard was dictated by the need to maintain state security in connection with Russian armed aggression against Ukraine and Russian disinformation activities in Poland.
