The Czech national transmission company CRA saw record-breaking data transfer for watching OTT services at the end of last month. In a statement, it says that on October 30, at around 20:40, the figure reached 1,216 Gbps. In comparison, the record for its network in 2016 was 30 Gbps.
According to CRA measurements, viewing of content offered to viewers by TV groups or publishing houses as part of OTT services is growing continuously, the increase having also been accelerated by the Covid 19 pandemic. OTT services include watching movies, series or additional content on the internet. CRA infrastructure for OTT is used by – amongst others – the TV groups Prima, Nova and publishers MAFRA and Economia.
Milos Mastnik, CRA’s CEO, said: “The increase in the consumption of video content is one of the most significant trends of recent times.
“There is more and more content that viewers watch through OTT services. These are gaining in importance and complement very well with classic linear television broadcasting. It is clear from the numbers that audiovisual content is the king of the current market”.
