Tricolor “protects satellite broadcasting in Russia”

November 2, 2023 07.56 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Russia’s leading pay-TV operator Tricolor has “declared victory over attacks” by implementing a project to “protect satellite broadcasting” in the country.

In a statement, it says it as done this by launching Tricolor Ultra, a large-scale broadcasting project on the Russian Express-AT1 satellite at 56 degrees. It adds that the main component of the project is exceptional safety. Broadcasting from a Russian satellite does not depend on the geopolitical situation and external threats. To maximize signal protection from possible attacks, it has also invested additional funds in the construction of a new teleport in Siberia.

Commenting on the project, Alexey Lipilin, deputy general director for strategy and development at Tricolor, said: “The situation with external interference required us to make drastic decisions to maintain the quality and level of our product. “Express-AT1” is only Russian frequencies, and this gives us additional confidence and stability. Our annual additional costs are hundreds of millions of rubles. We have not only invested in the construction of a new teleport, we also have at our disposal 20 transponders with a capacity of almost 700 MHz. This made it possible to offer Tricolor clients a unique channel plan”.

Alexey Volin, general director of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Space Communications”, added: “This year, through joint efforts together with Tricolor technical specialists, we managed to cope with the interference. Express-AT1 is a reliable Russian satellite that can receive a signal from different parts of the country. Now in Siberia we are building new satellite stations and installing large antennas. This will be a high-quality TV signal both in terms of technical parameters and media content. Thanks to safety, manufacturability and unique content, the new Tricolor Ultra project fully fits into the latest global trends”.

In the new project Tricolor Ultra more than 300 channels will be available. The include 100 channels in Ultra HD and HD formats, more than 100 movie channels and more than 100 entertainment channels. The total amount of content in the Tricolor Cinema and TV online cinema will reach over 100,000 units. In addition to this content, subscribers will also receive priority service in the new “Maximum” and “Premium” subscriptions.
