Orange and MásMóvil have chosen Digi as the company they will sell assets to in order to comply with any EU requirements to complete their merger in Spain.
News of their decision was provided to Reuters> by two people familiar with the matter. This was despite several companies having entered into talks with Orange and MásMóvil about their assets. Under a possible deal, Orange and MásMóvil would divest spectrum, a consumer unit and a brand, as well as offer Digi access to infrastructure.
Although the merger between Orange and MásMóvil was first announced in July 2022 it still awaits approval by the EU. However, Christel Heydemann, CEO of the Orange, has said she expects to receive it by the end of this year.
Romanian-owned Digi has grown rapidly in Spain in the last few years and had over 5.7 million customers as of the first half of this year.
