The Problem with Jon Stewart will not enter a third season after creative differences between the former host of The Daily Show and the Cupertino company.
The New York Times first reported the story citing ‘several people with knowledge of the decision’.
The Problem with Jon Stewart marked Stewart’s return to a regular talk show, six years after he left the Comedy Central programme that he turned into a cultural force.
Stewart is said to have told members of his staff on Thursday that proposed topics including China and artificial intelligence were causing concern among senior Apple executives. The upcoming US presidential election is also seen as a potential flashpoint.
There is said to be concern that Apple’s move into entertainment might indirectly cause damage to the brand in the way that other large corporations have seen. Such as pressure from Conservatives on Disney or Liberal protests against Starbucks over gun safety concerns.
Though over its two seasons there have been no such threats or criticisms to Apple and the second season has been nominated for a primetime Emmy.
As of September, Apple TV+ had more than 19.8 million US subscribers, according the analytics firm Antenna.
