TVP inks key football deal

October 10, 2023 13.08 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The Polish public broadcaster TVP has signed an agreement with the country’s Football Association PZPN securing exclusive rights to a host of competitions until 2027.

They include Fortuna 1st League, 2nd League, Fortuna Polish Cup and Polish Super Cup in men’s football, Orlen Ekstraliga and the final of the Orlen Polish Cup in women’s football, as well as matches of the Polish women’s national team, men’s youth national teams and the national futsal team.

The rights cover linear television, internet and mobile applications, as well as smart TV and hybrid television. As part of the cooperation, TVP will receive the title of “Main Television Partner” for all competitions included in the agreement, and the public broadcaster’s logos will be displayed, among others, in advertising materials, on websites, sports facilities and tickets.

Commenting on the agreement, TVP’s president Mateusz Matyszkowicz said: “Football is Poles’ favorite sport. We identify with our teams and regardless of what league they play in, for us they are the best in the world. The ambition of public television is to provide access to as many Polish competitions as possible on a free channel. The whole of Poland will be able to see their teams only on Polish Television. TVP is together with the fans of every Polish team. From a large metropolis to the smallest town. Thanks to this agreement, we can be closer to each other”.

Cezary Kulesza, president of PZPN, added: “The mission of the Polish Football Association is to popularize football in our country. Thanks to the agreement with Telewizja Polska, both men’s, women’s and youth games will reach a wide audience. We are very happy that cooperation with such a large entity as Telewizja Polska will last for three seasons. The public broadcaster, reaching almost every home in our country, is a guarantee that the competition on Polish fields will be watched more and more willingly. We also hope that this will translate into attendance at football stadiums at various levels”.

During the term of the agreement, TVP will broadcast over 1,700 matches.

The agreement also creates the possibility for clubs or the PZPN to produce and broadcast selected matches not covered by the broadcast and to make them available (with the consent of TVP) to, among others. local broadcasters.
