German media company Sport1 has founded its own technology subsidiary, the S1 Technology Hub, based in the Polish capital Warsaw.
The S1 Technology Hub, which starts operations in Q4 2023, will form the basis for the technological product development and scaling of the group’s various digital offerings.
Sport1’s digital portfolio includes Sport1.de, the Sport1 apps and the smart TV app sport1TV, which launched in Germany, Austria and Switzerland in 2022, offering live and on-demand sports content and competitions. In addition, the S1 Technology Hub will also serve as a software development hub for other companies of the Highlight Communications group, to which Sport1 belongs. The S1 Technology Hub is headed by Julian Frost (pictured), Head of Digital at Sport1.
“The establishment of the S1 Technology Hub is a significant investment in the digital future of the Sport1 brand. Our expansion into Poland is a logical step to gain valuable additional resources for the further development of our digital ecosystem in light of the continued increase in demand. Furthermore, we want to establish our new S1 Technology Hub as a sustainable solution with scaling potential also as a technology partner for other companies of the Highlight Communications group,” said Tim Schnabel, COO and Managing Director Digital of Sport1.
Julian Frost, CTO and Digital Executive of Sport1, added: “We have ambitious growth targets that will not be realisable without a powerful tech team. With the newly founded S1 Technology Hub, we are creating precisely these resources that are critical to success. At the same time, we are currently establishing the necessary scalable structures and processes internally in order to be able to process the strong growth and ensure fast and high-quality results for our products. We have deliberately decided against a setup as a pure service provider, but instead are creating fully integrated and flexible Scrum teams in a fully mobile working environment.”
