The Croatian Telecommunications Union (HST) has announced a protest for the employees of A1 Hrvatska in Zagreb on October 7.
In a statement is says that “the management of A1 Hrvatska systematically violates the legal rights of workers, does not want to align workers’ wages with the cost of living, nor with business results, and at the same time raises the price of services for citizens, and has obstructed collective bargaining on workers’ rights for more than a year”.
HST’s president Vesna Mamic went on to say: “A1 Hrvatska is one of the most profitable companies in Croatia, and hundreds of its workers work for unworthy wages. The minimum wage in A1 Hrvatska is €590 (about 400 workers, or 20% of the company’s workers, work in the lowest wage class), and about 70% of the workers work for a salary lower than the average salary in the Republic of Croatia. A1 Hrvatska violates the Labour Law, gives illegal dismissals, even to disabled people, and continues with the same practice despite court rulings. All these are the reasons why on the Day of Decent Work we demand the right to dignified wages and respect for the rights of the workers of A1 Hrvatska”.
HST points out that at A1 A1 Hrvatska’s parent company in Austria workers have a collective agreement, their wages are adjusted to the cost of living and they have a good social dialogue.
