Canal+ expands Czech reach

September 13, 2023 09.55 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Canal+ has expanded the distribution of its channels in the Czech Republic.

In addition to Skylink, freeSAT, Canal+ and T-Mobile Czech Republic, Canal+ Sport and Canal+ Action are now available on O2 TV. Significantly, Canal+ Sport has exclusive rights to the Premier League.

Commenting on the development, Ladislav Rehacek, VP of Canal+ Luxembourg for the Czech Republic and Slovakia, said: “The English Premier League is one of the best that the sports world has to offer, which is reflected in the price of broadcasting rights. We do not intend to distribute our programs exclusively, on the contrary, from the beginning we are open to discussions about sharing them with other major TV platforms. I am therefore pleased that an agreement has been reached and our Canal+ Sport and Canal+ Action will now also be available to O2 customers. I believe that greater accessibility will help further expand the number of Czech fans of the English top football competition”.

Anna Lenerova, head of content at O2, added: “We value our viewers and would like to thank them for their long-term loyalty and trust with more great sports content. The English Premier League will ideally complement the O2 TV offer, which is unrivaled for fans. Only on O2 TV can anyone watch the UEFA Champions League, the English Premier League, the German Bundesliga, the Italian Serie A, the Spanish La Liga, the Dutch Eredivisie, the Belgian Pro League or the Portuguese Primeira Liga. Also new are all matches from the hockey extra league. This confirms that O2 TV is the home of sport”.

In a separate development, both Skylink and freeSAT have added the Nova Sport 3 and 4 channels to their offers.
