24i and Amino to makes TV-as-a-Service for Thurcom

September 13, 2023 12.14 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Video streaming specialists 24i and sister company Amino are to power video services for Switzerland’s largest regional telecommunications provider.

It follows an agreement with Technische Betriebe Wil on behalf of its video services subsidiary Thurcom.

The joint TV-as-a-service (TVaaS) solution will enable Thurcom to significantly improve time to market, while reducing on-site infrastructure and operational complexity to deliver a superior user experience for its subscribers.

The 24i FokusOnTV middleware solution is pre-integrated with Swisscom Broadcast’s premium headend infrastructure, which will give Thurcom instant access to more than 600 national and international TV channels, and 24/7 monitoring from a dedicated European Network Operations Centre (NOC). Amino, is providing its popular Amigo 7X Android TV operator tier certified UHD client TV device, which is also pre-integrated with FokusOnTV.

“Our main goal as a public utility in Switzerland is to leverage state-of-the-art technology to provide robust and reliable video services that maximize the reach to all households in our region,” said Stefan Huber, Head of communications network at TBW, which operates all of its communications offerings through Thurcom. “The integrated TVaaS solution from Swisscom, 24i and Amino will enable us to efficiently launch a modern video experience with all the features our subscribers expect, while also allowing us to easily scale as we transition from cable to IPTV for further expansion.”

“Thurcom is an ideal deployment to highlight all the advantages of an advanced and truly end-to-end TVaaS platform,” said Donald McGarva, Group CEO at Aferian, parent company of 24i and Amino. “The configurability and multi-device support really help transform an off-the-shelf platform into a branded and localized pay TV user experience that keeps subscribers engaged. It doesn’t get any easier than this.”

The Thurcom TV app, will be available on mobile devices running iOS or Android as well as Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Android TVs and Chromecast, gives subscribers the ability to pause, resume or restart live TV channels, along with network PVR capabilities. The Amigo 7X also includes a launcher for Android TV, which will allow Thurcom to aggregate content from other streaming service providers as well as their own.

The joint FokusOnTV and Amigo 7X solution will be demonstrated at IBC 2023 (Hall 5, Stand C33).
