The CEO of Comcast has indicated the date for the purchase or sale of its stake in Hulu could come as soon as September 30.
Comcast seems likely to sell its 33% stake to the Walt Disney Company after several years of ping-pong speculation over the streaming service’s future. “As of September 30, after some short period of time Disney can call, we can put, and I believe that’s what will end up happening,” said Brian Roberts on Wednesday.
Talks between the two have already taken place with a final valuation likely to be in excess of 2019’s $27.5 billion.
As of the end of the September quarter, Hulu had 48.3 million subscribers, compared with 24 million paid subscribers for Comcast’s Peacock and 105.7 million global subscribers for Disney+.
