KPN extends Dutch football deal

September 6, 2023 12.22 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

KPN and the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) have extended their long-term cooperation until 2026.

Commenting on the extension, Dave Dekker, commercial director of the KNVB, said: “One of the objectives of the KNVB is to take Dutch football as a whole to a higher level and our partner KPN helps us enormously with this.

“Their contribution is what we can call ‘total football’: from (technical) support of the national teams to amateur associations. Consider the KPN Data Services Hub for the staff of national teams and the necessary connections for the E_ROOM and the VAR on the KNVB Campus in Zeist. The KNVB and KPN find each other in all these different areas and that is why we are extremely happy with this contract extension”.

Mark Versteegen, director of sponsorship at KPN, added: “The partnership with the KNVB allows us to connect people with football.

“Thousands of KPN customers were and will be welcome again at the Oranje matches in the coming years. At the KNVB campus in Zeist we allow children to ‘Train as an Oranje’ during our football camps and we organise the Football Friends Day for children with disabilities. With FC Mooiste Contact we regularly invite people for whom social contact is not self-evident to the Oranje matches. In the coming years we will remain committed to helping as many people as possible enjoy football, actively and passively”.

The KNVB and KPN have also concluded a new agreement for the necessary connections between the ARAG KNVB Replay Center in Zeist and the Eredivisie stadiums. Since the introduction of VAR in the Eredivisie in the 2018/19 season, KPN has provided the necessary data and internet connections to make the use of VAR in the Eredivisie technically possible. KPN’s services apply to all matches in the Netherlands where VAR is used.
