NBCUniversal has promoted veteran sales executive Mark Marshall to the role of chairman, global advertising and partnerships, reporting to Mark Lazarus, chairman, NBCUniversal Media Group.
Commenting on the promotion, Lazarus said: “Mark stepped into this role on an interim basis at one of the most critical times of year for the ad sales business, and over the past three months he has more than proven himself to be the leader NBCU needs to guide this team into the future.
“Mark’s relationships are second to none, and coupled with his transformative vision, I have no doubt that under his leadership we will continue to reinvent and innovate the sales business while super-serving our clients and partners”.
Marshall was named interim chairman of advertising sales and partnerships in May. In this role, he helped lead the team through a successful upfront, ultimately closing this year’s negotiations with total cash commitments roughly in line with last year (NBCU’s highest grossing upfront to-date) despite industry-wide economic headwinds.
Previously, Marshall held the role of president, advertising sales and partnerships since 2018, during which time he had strategic oversight of all advertising sales initiatives for NBCUniversal’s NBC Broadcast Entertainment, NBC Sports, advanced advertising sales and client partnerships.?Prior to that, he held the post of executive VP, entertainment advertising sales group where he oversaw the combined advertising sales for NBC Entertainment, USA, Syfy and WWE.
Before joining NBCUniversal, Marshall held multiple advertising sales and sports positions at Turner Broadcasting between 1999 – 2013, ultimately serving as senior VP and national sales manager. Earlier in his career, Marshall was VP and national sales manager for Turner Sports, leading the Midwest regional sales, and served as VP of Turner Sports advertising sales for the West Coast region.
