Bundled services are becoming increasingly popular in Portugal, with growth being driven by 4P and 5P packages.
According to figures published by the regulator ANACOM, there were a total of 4.6 million subscribers to bunded services at the end of June, or 131,000 (+2.9%) more than in the same period last year. The number of 4/5P subscribers increased by 169,000, or 7.2%.
4/5P offers were the most subscribed, with 2.5 million customers (54.8% of the total number of subscribers to bundled offers), followed by 3P offers (with 1.7 million subscribers, 36, 4%). Meanwhile, 3P offers saw the biggest annual decline since 2015.
Isolated offers, single play or 1P, which are characterised by not being sold as a bundle, accounted for 69% of mobile accesses and 15.2% of fixed accesses. It is estimated that in July 2022, isolated residential offers amounted to just 1% of total fixed broadband residential subscribers, 3% of total pay-TV residential subscribers and 5% of total fixed telephony residential subscribers.
Between January and June 2023, revenues from bundled services amounted to €1,004 million (51.8% of total retail revenues), having increased by 8.8% over the same period of the previous year, the highest annual growth recorded since 2016. Revenues from 4/5P offers represented 66.8% of total bundled revenues or 34.6% of total retail revenues. ARPU (€36.61 excluding VAT) also recorded the highest annual growth since 2016 (+5.3%).
The ARPU was €45.08 in the case of 4/5P offers (+4.4%) and €28.67 in the case of 3P offers (+4.0%).
At the end of H1, Meo was the provider with the highest share of subscribers to bundled services (41.3%), followed by Grupo Nos (35.4%), Vodafone (20.5 %) and Nowo (2.8%). Compared to the same period last year, Meo and Vodafone increased their share of subscribers (+0.3 p.p. in both cases), while the shares of Grupo Nos and Nowo decreased (both -0.3 p.p.).
In net terms, Nowo was the only one of the providers to decrease the number of package subscribers. By type of offer, Meo had the highest share of subscribers in all types of offer: 2P (45.1%), 3P (39.3%) and 4/5P (42.0%). Meo also had the highest share of revenues from bundled services (41.2%), followed by Grupo Nos (40.4%), Vodafone (16.6%) and Nowo ( 1.6%).
