The Polish media company Astro plans to launch a travel channel named Wakacjie.
Wirtualne Media reports that it has applied to the country’s National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) for permission to change the name of its current entertainment-based channel 13, which has a licence until February 2031.
Quoting Ryszard Krajewski, the chairman of Astro’s supervisory board, it adds that 13 will be replaced by Wakacje, which will differ from a previous travel named Podróze TV that operated in Poland between 2003-2008.
While the latter was owned by two travel agencies and focused on selling holidays, Wakacje will have a very different philosophy.
Significantly, it will be produced by former employees of the public broadcaster TVP.
