RTVE has announced plans to broadcast the final of the Women’s World Cup, between Spain and England, in the Ultra HD format.
The Spanish public broadcaster has been broadcasting all the matches of the competition in Ultra High Definition through its test channels, TVE-UHD and TVE-UHD 2, both of which are available over DTT in much of the country.
“The broadcast of this historic final of the Women’s World Cup in Ultra High Definition responds to RTVE’s commitment to broadcast major events live, openly, for everyone and with the highest possible quality via DTT. It is the first television in the world to do so,” RTVE said in statement.
Regular broadcasts of RTVE in Ultra HD over DTT will begin on February 15, 2024 by when it is expected 98% of the population will be reached.
There is some concern that the collective DTT reception facility in residential buildings will need be adapted to be able to receive the corresponding UHF channel, something not required in residential dwellings.
