The man behind the development of Amazon’s consumer devices is stepping down from the role.
David Limp has spent 13 years in charge of the parcels to entertainment company’s portfolio of tech products.
Wall Street Journal, which first reported the story, said Limp’s division had been a particular target of the 27,000 job cuts that have been imposed by Andy Jassy, Amazon’s CEO for the past two years with 10,000 roles being lost.
Limp began his career in the late 1980s at Apple, before joining Palm, and moving to Amazon in 2010.
The devices division is responsible for a portfolio that includes Amazon’s Alexa personal assistant and the Fire TV streaming media range. However, despite being a vital cog in Amazon’s virtuous wheel, it has failed to make money in its own right.
Earlier this year, Amazon confirmed that over half a billion Amazon enabled devices had now been sold, while sales of Fire TV streaming devices and smart TVs have now surpassed 200 million units to date.
