The popularity of Turkish TV series in Russia has led to a surge in piracy.
As a result, reports TelecomDaily, citing Vedomosti and data supplied by the Media Communication Union (MKS), in the first six months of this year almost 2.7 million web pages with illegal copies of Turkish TV series were entered into the register of internet resources created as part of the anti-piracy memorandum.
This was 3.2 times higher than in H1 2022 and i 27 times higher than in H1 2021.It adds that the reason for this rise is that copyright holders are now actively purchasing Turkish content and are interested in protecting it.
Media companies, producers and internet companies signed an anti-piracy memorandum in 2018.
According to the document, they can extrajudicially remove from search results links to pages with illegal copies of their works and purchased content for which they have exclusive rights. These links are sent to a special register, which is held by the MKS.
