Telefónica has been awarded the exclusive rights to the Champions League in Spain for the next three seasons.
According to El Economista, it will pay a total of €960 million for the rights, which also include the UEFA Europa League, as well as the UEFA Youth League and the UEFA Europa Conference League.
Quoting a statement supplied by the telco to the market regulator CNMV, it adds that the award, made to Telefónica Audiovisual Digital, is subject to a formalisation of a contract with UEFA that is expected to be finalised shortly and will allow Telefónica to offer all of the main European football competitions to its customers in the residential segment.
Significantly, the amount Telefónica will pay for the rights is less than for the last three seasons (€975 million), which itself was 10% lower than the three before.
Telefónica, along with DAZN, also holds the audiovisual rights to LaLiga Santander.
