The bids for the domestic rights of Italian Serie A soccer have failed to reach the €1 billion sought by the clubs for the five-year period from 2024-2025.
It means the league has postponed a decision on a deal until October.
TV revenues are a crucial source of revenue for clubs that include Juventus, AC Milan, Inter and this year’s champions Napoli.
After an initial round of talks with broadcasters DAZN, Sky Italia, and MediaForEurope (the former Mediaset), the first set of bids submitted for the live rights to matches was considered too low and dismissed.
Serie A Chief Executive Luigi De Siervo later told reporters that the TV companies still had “some work to do”.
DAZN currently has the rights to broadcast all of the games in the League with Sky holding the rights to three matches per round.
